The Importance of Disability Ministry

The Bible calls us to love our neighbors regardless of their societal status or abilities. The disability community is the largest minority group, yet often the most forgotten. At CSBF, we strive to demonstrate our love through actions, not just words.

How You Can Help

Welcoming Churchgoers: Treat individuals as people first, not defined by their disabilities. Avoid making assumptions and offer genuine kindness and understanding.

Inviting Others: If you know someone with a disability, invite them to visit CSBF. Share our accessibility features, the care team’s support, and offer to accompany them. Encourage them to contact our care team for any special accommodations they may need.

Achievements and Future Goals

Care Team Accomplishments:

  • Hosting respite events and providing educational resources.

  • Bringing care to homebound and nursing home-bound congregants.

  • Offering tangible care, such as lawn care and cleaning, for those unable to do so themselves.

Next Goal:

  • Installing a Universal Changing Table to further enhance our facilities.

Trail clearing was a major focus, with volunteers clearing paths to ensure safe and accessible routes throughout the camp. This task is vital for the safety and enjoyment of all camp attendees, making the natural beauty of the area more accessible to everyone.

A significant milestone achieved was the completion of the fence around the pool. This critical project enhances safety measures, ensuring a secure environment for swimming activities, a core part of the camp's recreational offerings.

Cabin cleaning was also on the agenda, with the group making sure the living spaces were left in pristine condition, reflecting their respect and care for the facilities and the next occupants.

Final Touches and Reflection

Today, the focus shifted to wrapping up all ongoing projects and tidying up the camp, a testament to the group's commitment to leaving a positive mark on Camp Nathaniel. The completion of these projects marks the culmination of a week filled with hard work, learning, and camaraderie.

As they prepare to depart early tomorrow morning, the group is taking time to reflect on their experiences, the friendships forged, and the lessons learned. The impact of their work is evident throughout the camp, from the freshly painted buildings and cleared trails to the woodpile and the secure pool area.

This Sunday marked the beginning of an exciting service week for the CSBF Youth Group at the serene Camp Nathanael, located in the heart of Kentucky. The group arrived with enthusiasm, ready to dedicate their time and energy to various service projects aimed at enhancing the camp's facilities and environment.

Upon their arrival, the group quickly settled in and prepared for the week's tasks. Their first full day, Monday, was packed with a range of activities. They also took on painting projects, adding a fresh coat of paint to several areas, and installed new poles for a pool fence, helping to improve safety around the recreational area.

Aside from the heavy lifting and manual labor, the group contributed to the camp's daily operations by washing dishes and participating in cooking. These activities not only provided essential support to the camp but also offered the youth an opportunity to learn new skills and work together in a different capacity.

Lots of work being done, but lots of fun being had at the same time.

Summer Ministry Presentations: Israel and Camp Nathanael

Summer brings many opportunities to travel and serve at camp. This Sunday, July 30th, Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship had the privilege of hearing about Abby’s time spent at Camp Nathanael in Kentucky as well as Jenni and Elena’s trip to Israel. Both presentations were given during the Sunday School hour and gave an overview of their trips and what they learned from them.

Abby shares about her time spent serving in the dining hall at Camp Nathanael in Kentucky.

Abby served at Camp Nathanael in Kentucky for five weeks this summer. She served in the dining hall as the dining room supervisor, making sure that meal times went smoothly and interacting campers and families. She learned how to lead the dining room staff and challenged herself to be patient and rely on the Lord.

Besides working in the dining hall, Abby also had a few other opportunities to serve in other places around camp. She was able to play piano during the chapel times and music and missionary times. She said that this was a stretching time and that she didn’t always enjoy it, but learned to rely on the Lord and do it for his glory.

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship also had the opportunity to hear from Jenni and Elena. They shared about their trip to Israel this past May. They shared pictures and stories of where they went and what they encountered and their reflections on the trip.

Jenni and Elena share pictures of their trip to Israel. Check out a few pictures from their trip down below!

Jenni and Elena had the chance to see sights in Israel that we read about in Scripture. They traveled to well-known places like the Sea of Galilee, Capernaum, the synagogue, Masada, Megiddo, the Dead Sea, the Jordan River and other places that the Bible talks about.

After visiting these places, they both said that they have a better picture of where theses places are and what it might have been like as they read through the Bible. It brings the Bible to life when you’ve been to these historical sites where Jesus and other biblical characters walked. What an amazing opportunity!

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship Begins Lobby Renovation Project

Christian and Mike work hard to remove the tile from the three entrances.

Volunteers rolled up their sleeves and embarked on various tasks to prepare the lobby for its upcoming rejuvenation. The energetic team tackled a range of activities, including tearing out the old carpet, chiseling out tiles, removing trim, and dismantling the library walls.

The project also involved relocating bathroom doors and skillfully re-drywalling them. This attention to detail ensured that the redesigned bathroom areas would be functional and aesthetically pleasing for all who utilize them. The removal of light fixtures will allow for the installation of new, modern fixtures that will enhance both the ambiance and practicality of the space.

Reflecting on the day's accomplishments, the church leadership expressed their gratitude for the remarkable turnout and dedication of the volunteers. Their collective efforts signify the congregations unwavering commitment to making Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship a more inviting and flexible space for all.

The lobby renovation project aims to create an environment that radiates warmth and hospitality while offering increased flexibility to accommodate a wide range of activities and programs. The ongoing efforts seek to align the church's physical space with its mission of glorifying God by strengthening believers and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone.

As the renovation progresses, Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship anticipates an enhanced facility that will provide a nurturing space for congregants and visitors alike. The project represents a significant investment in the church's future, and the collective determination and support from the congregation serve as powerful reminders of the shared vision that unites them.

The kick-off of the lobby renovation project marks an exciting chapter in the history of Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship. With each step forward, the church community moves closer to realizing their goal of creating an environment that exemplifies warmth, welcome, and versatility. Together, they remain committed to building a space that fosters spiritual growth and strengthens the bonds of fellowship among all who enter their doors.

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship Launches New Ministry 'Care' to Support Caregivers

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship, a local church in the heart of the community, has announced the establishment of a new ministry called Care. With an initial focus on respite care for caregivers, Care aims to provide much-needed support to those who selflessly care for others. The mission of the dedicated committee behind the ministry is to offer care where it is needed most while glorifying and sharing God's hope.

Annie Heathcote (Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin) leads the presentation on the new Care ministry at CSBF.

Drawing inspiration from Romans 12:13, which states, "Share with the Lord's people who are in need. Practice hospitality," the Care team is committed to embodying this biblical teaching in their actions. Their ultimate goal is to bridge the gap left by other existing ministries and discreetly facilitate care in the community.

The Care ministry's approach involves developing relationships and fostering a culture of care within the congregation and the community. Recognizing the challenging and often overwhelming nature of caregiving, the committee aims to create an environment where caregivers feel supported, valued, and understood. By cultivating meaningful connections, they hope to build a strong network of individuals who are willing to extend a helping hand to those in need.

The Care Committee presents their ministry for the first time to Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship attendees.

One of the key initiatives of the Care ministry is to provide respite care for caregivers. Respite care offers temporary relief to caregivers by allowing them to take a break from their responsibilities while ensuring their loved ones receive the necessary care and attention. The Care team plans to organize events and activities specifically designed to provide caregivers with the respite they need and deserve.

The Care committee has a heart for those that need care in the congregation and the community.

These community events will serve as opportunities for caregivers to relax, recharge, and connect with others who understand the unique challenges they face. By fostering a supportive network and offering a safe space for caregivers to share their experiences, the ministry aims to alleviate stress and promote overall well-being.

The Care ministry at Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship firmly believes that caring for those who care for others is an integral part of fulfilling their mission to spread God's love. By actively practicing hospitality and extending a helping hand, they hope to make a positive and lasting impact on the lives of caregivers within the community.

For more information about the Care ministry and how to get involved, interested individuals can contact Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship by emailing office@csbf.org or by visiting the church directly. The ministry encourages everyone to play a part in supporting caregivers and spreading God's hope through acts of compassion and service.

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship Unveils Ambitious Lobby Redesign to Foster Warmth, Versatility, and Accessibility

Date: May 20, 2023

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship has embarked on an exciting venture to reimagine its lobby into a space that exudes warmth, welcome, and versatility. The ambitious renovation project aims to create a more inviting and accommodating environment that caters to a range of needs within the congregation. Church leaders recently provided insights into the genesis of the project, highlighting their collaboration with renowned designer Robin Roberts, whose expertise was sought to devise a comprehensive design plan.

Ron Smith, who is the Pastor at CSBF, shed light on the vision behind the transformative endeavor during a recent congregational meeting.

"We desired to establish a space that radiates warmth, extending a heartfelt welcome to everyone who enters our fellowship," Ron explained. "Moreover, we wanted this area to serve multiple purposes, allowing us to nurture a stronger sense of community among our congregants and the community.”

To breathe life into their vision, the church's deacons turned to the accomplished interior designer, Robin Roberts. Recognized for their ability to craft visually stunning and functional spaces, Roberts was a natural choice for this ambitious project. After a meticulous evaluation of the building's layout and existing lobby space, Roberts proposed a series of changes that would facilitate the desired transformation.

The centerpiece of the renovation plan entails opening up the foyer by removing the current library walls, thereby creating a more spacious and welcoming environment. This modification will pave the way for increased flexibility in utilizing the lobby space for a diverse range of activities, including events, meetings, and social functions.

Andy Olson, another member of the church's leadership team, emphasized the need for an upgrade due to the building's age. Recognizing the importance of a holistic renovation, Andy highlighted several key areas that necessitated attention, including repainting the walls, replacing the flooring, and redesigning the bathroom entrances. These improvements will not only enhance the lobby's aesthetic appeal but also ensure a comfortable and accessible environment for all individuals.

The transformation of the lobby is scheduled to commence in the coming weeks under the watchful guidance of a dedicated team. The church community eagerly anticipates the completion of this renovation, as it is expected to significantly enhance the overall experience for all visitors to Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship.

With a renewed focus on cultivating a warm and welcoming environment, the revitalized lobby will undoubtedly become a hub of community engagement, fostering deeper connections among congregants and providing an inviting space for all individuals seeking spiritual growth and fellowship.

As the project unfolds, Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship remains steadfast in its mission to glorify God by strengthening believers and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone. The revamped lobby will serve as a testament to the church's commitment to creating an environment where individuals can feel embraced, supported, and inspired in their faith journey.

Camp Nathanael Flood Recovery - Update Three

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship from Mazomanie, Wisconsin continued their volunteer mission at Camp Nathanael in Kentucky on Thursday. The group of 35 individuals worked tirelessly to help with flood recovery efforts, making significant progress throughout the week.

On Thursday, the group finished setting 80 fence posts for the horse pasture, which was a massive accomplishment. This project required a lot of hard work and physical strength, but the group was determined to get it done, and they did so with precision and efficiency.

In addition to this, the group helped out in the camp's merch store, assisting with various tasks such as organizing and restocking merchandise. The group also hung lots more drywall, which requires patience and attention to detail.

The group also continued to clean up along the creek, an essential step in ensuring that the area is safe and habitable. This project required a lot of physical labor, but the group was up to the challenge, and they completed it with determination and enthusiasm.

Despite the hard work, the group was able to have some fun as well. The staff at Camp Nathanael set up a time for everyone involved to be able to ride horses late Thursday afternoon. This experience was a great way to unwind and enjoy some time together as a team.

The group's trip was undoubtedly a success, and they were able to make a significant impact on the recovery efforts at Camp Nathanael. They worked hard and had fun!

We don’t want to give away every detail of their trip as the group will be presenting on April 2nd at Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship - we’d love to have you join us to hear more about their adventures. We look forward to hearing more about their experiences and the impact they made on the community.

Camp Nathanael Flood Recovery - Update Two

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship (Mazomanie, Wisconsin) is currently on day three of a five day missions trip to help with flood recovery at Camp Nathanael in Kentucky. The group, consisting of 35 dedicated individuals, arrived at the camp with a determination to make a difference and lend their hands and expertise to help the camp that was in need. If you missed Monday’s update click here!

On Tuesday, the group hit the ground running, and their hard work and dedication were evident from the start. They began by seeding and mulching several large areas, a crucial step in ensuring that the grass can regrow and will prevent further erosion issues from occurring. They then moved on to painting cabins, which was a big task but one that they tackled with enthusiasm.

The group also spent a lot of time cleaning the cabins, making sure that they were spotless and ready for visitors. They even painted a bathhouse, which was in need of some TLC. In addition to this, they installed lots of 6x6 posts for a fence around the horse pasture.

One of the most significant projects that the group took on was digging a 400ft trench, which was no easy feat. Fortunately they had a trench digger to help them out!

On Wednesday, the group continued their hard work, even though the weather wasn't on their side. They started the day by cleaning the girls' bathhouse, which was a big job. The group also took on some administrative tasks, stuffing 300 envelopes with newsletters, which will help keep the community informed about the work and ministry that is being done at Camp Nathanael.

In addition to this, they installed more fence posts, this time in the rain, which was a testament to their perseverance. What’s happening with all of the kids you might ask? Several of the teams and one adult take turns watching the kids for the four hour work shifts so that the parents and other teens can work on projects. Thank you to all that are serving in so many ways!

The group also laid carpet squares in the childcare building, which will provide comfort and warmth for the children. They even finished a second deck and started drywalling another house, a task that requires patience and attention to detail.

Overall, the group's efforts have been remarkable, and their dedication to helping the community at Camp Nathanael is truly inspiring. Through their hard work and determination, they have already been able to make a significant impact on the recovery efforts. Their efforts are a reminder that when we work together, for the glory of God and by His strength, we can accomplish great things and bring hope to those who need it most. As the team rolls in to day four we ask that you would pray for strength to finish the last two days well and ultimately to finish the trip in a way that brings glory to God.

Camp Nathanael Flood Recovery - Update One

Multiple teams of people from Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship (totaling 35) left the Mazomanie, WI area over the weekend to arrive, over 10 hours later, at their destination - Camp Nathanael in Emmalena, KY.

Camp Nathanael, like many other neighboring homes and communities in Eastern Kentucky was struck by a devastating flood near the end of July 2022.

Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship supports Cameron and Grace McIntyre as missionaries at Camp Nathanael. When the need of repair at the camp arose God called the team down to Kentucky for the week of March 20-24th. After getting settled on Sunday the team dug in first thing on Monday morning. They started by cleaning up two pastures that were riddled with trash from the flood and followed that up with the gutting of a house on the camp grounds. Later that afternoon they began re-insulating that same home and put began putting new drywall up.

Many members of the team were involved in stuffing newsletters on behalf of the camp. They stuffed and placed addresses on over 2000 envelopes! They also cleaned and cut up some trees that needed attention and started a second floor deck (see below). What an incredible first day!

They’ve developed a schedule of working for about four hours in the morning until lunch and then four hours in the afternoon until supper time. Many of the ladies have been working to prepare meals but from pictures it looks like everyone has gotten to take a turn in the kitchen. Please pray for strength and safety for the team. Please also pray that they would work as a team and glorify God in all that they do.

Braydan Cymbalak | Guatemala Mission Trip

As part of the Global Outreach teams at Cedarville University, Braydan Cymbalak will be going to Guatemala, to the city of Antigua to serve on a medical mission trip. He will be leaving on Friday, March 2nd and would appreciate your prayers.

Global Outreach exists to prepare and organize the Cedarville University community to know, live, and share the Gospel. This is accomplished through locating opportunities and recruiting, equipping, and sending students, faculty, and staff to serve across the street or across the ocean.

This specific trip is through the organization called Caring Partners. The trip will be a week long and he and the team will be serving by giving needed medications, physicals and other medical needs to the underserved community in Antigua.

Please pray for safe travels for these teams and that the people they serve will be open to the message of the gospel.

Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin - Annie Heathcote

Annie Heathcote (Mazomanie, Wi) recently was crowned “Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin 2023!” Annie was a part of a full day of judging to decide who would be crowned. She had to answer on the spot questions both in a group setting and in private with different judges. She as well as other participants also had to write and memorize a two minute speech that she had to give in front of the audience.

Ms. Wheelchair Wisconsin will be spending 2023 traveling the state bringing her message of “Caring is Caregiving” which highlights the caregiving needs that are currently out there, the benefits of becoming a caregiver and the impact that caregiving can make in peoples lives.

"A lot of people think that just nurses and CNAs should be caregivers but I think that [the special care that’s needed is] just normal routines that everyone does and its just helping someone out, even if its just one shift a week.” - Annie

Annie will be representing the state of Wisconsin for the next year while also competing in the national pageant for the Ms. Wheelchair America national title this coming summer in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

🐊 Final Update: Florida Missions Trip 2022

So much has been accomplished by the team in Florida and we praise God for their efforts, progress, and strength that He gave them to accomplish His work down there!

There were three buildings that the team worked on and they can be seen in the picture below. When they first walked in to the buildings (especially the main building) they were greeted by bare studs, screws and nails everywhere, and no insulation. What a difference they have made!

Before and after picture from the main building in one of the bedrooms. What a difference!

On the 13th the team put all of the brown panels up in the main area of the main building. In the second building they worked to install insulation and began the ceiling project which was installing wood paneling.

Yesterday they worked on trimming everything out including chair rail, baseboard and window trim in the main building.

Today they worked on the home and the cottage. They finished the ceiling project, insulation, and got the walls put back together and ready for the finishing touches of trim and flooring. In the cottage they completed demolition and sprayed the walls for mold remediation & prevention.

After the team leaves, flooring will be installed and the buildings will be largely completed.

Please be praying for the team that they would get a good nights rest and would have safe travels home. Praise God for the work that they were able to accomplish while they were in Florida and the lives they impacted. ♥

🐊 Update Two: Florida Missions Trip 2022

The team is hitting the energy drinks hard as the project ramps up. 🥤 They are working on several living quarters that were damaged by the recent hurricane that crossed over Florida late in September of 2022. Much of the building has been gutted and the drywall has been taken off 4 feet up.

The team will be installing insulation and blue wood panels as seen in the picture below.

In the first house the team will be working on they will be fixing up the main living space, seven bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small laundry room, as well as a kitchenette. Once the insulation and panels are installed the team will also install chair rail around the edge and base board trim to finish it off. They hope to get to two other homes nearby to do similar projects before the week is over and have already started stripping the walls in those homes - similar to the one in the pictures.

Other projects will include replacing, repairing and trimming out windows. All of the trim has been cut, primed and is ready to be painted. Please remember to pray for the team!

🐊 Update One: Florida Missions Trip 2022

On December 9th, 2022, a team of 8 people from Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship flew down to Florida to assist with the recovery from Hurricane Ian.  The team plans to work on a bed and breakfast for a couple who bought the property only just before the hurricane came through and destroyed much of it.  Please be praying for safety, team unity, that people would see their need for Jesus, and that the Lord would be glorified.

MOVE 2022 Recap

On Saturday, October 29 2022, Curtiss Street Bible Fellowship hosted MOVE 2022 - a Women’s conference open to the general public and women of all ages. Pictures from the event and the recorded sessions are available below. Nearly 60 women attended the event where CSBF’s worship team lead the group in live worship and Robin Ross spoke on the topic of moving… specifically that:

God is in the moving business.

He takes us from hopeless to... hopeful. He takes us from being forgotten... to remembered.

He takes us from being insignificant and worthless to... Seen, known, and loved.

He teaches us that we must take control of our thoughts. This is how life goes:

Something happens (the event). We have a thought about it. The thought causes an emotion. We act.

We must recognize our feelings.

Identify our thoughts.

Submit our thoughts.

Transform our thoughts.

God saw, heard, came down to deliver.

God sees - El Roi

God hears - El Shama

God knows - El Yada

God delivers - Jehovah Mephalt
